Sixing Xu creates sculpture-text narratives interwoven with elements of printmaking. Treating the lived reality as a site for chance encounters, Xu glean its most accidental and peripheral indicators to imagine storylines that contemplate, contradict, or circumvent the existing narratives of history, language, and ideology. In each work, sculptures and texts conjure a narrative time-space that they co-inhabit, often featuring one or more characters from the artist's narrative universe: The Detective, Thief, A Chinese, An American, Friend, Enemy, Traveler, Eavesdropper, and Alien/Child.
